Luis Suarez will have knee surgery to correct an injury to his external meniscus this Sunday, Barcelona have announced.
The operation means the club will have to cope without the Uruguay international for a little while, although they have not yet confirmed how long he is expected to be out for.
The news will be a blow as Suarez has been in good goalscoring form. He was named La Liga’s Player of the Month for December and has 14 goals in all competitions this season.
Barcelona are already without Ousmane Dembele due to injury, and Suarez’s forthcoming absence reduces their options in attack even further.
Suarez’s injury is likely to be good news for Antoine Griezmann, who could be moved into a move central role, while Ansu Fati and Carles Perez wil also come into the reckoning.
