Liverpool:
Jurgen Klopp's side have a big Champions League semi-final second leg next Wednesday, so precautions must be taken to keep the squad fresh, meaning that the likes of Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino could be rested. Furthermore, the Reds are coming into a bit of an injury crisis as the crunch period of the season arrives.
With Emre Can, Adam Lallana, and now Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all out injured, Liverpool now only have three senior midfielders (Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum and James Milner) fit. Furthermore, Sadio Mane recently picked up a thigh injury, although Jurgen Klopp has assured fans that it is only minor, and it is expected that the forward will be out for at least one game.
Joel Matip is out for the season, and Dejan Lovren is still working his way back up to full fitness, meaning that Ragnar Klavan or Joe Gomez could start alongside Virgil Van Dijk at centre-back.
Stoke:
Paul Lambert will be without Eric Choupo-Moting and Kostas Stafylidis, who are both out with groin and rib injuries respectively.
Former Liverpool player Glen Johnson is also expected to miss out, after aggravating a groin injury in Stoke's recent clash with Burnley. Kurt Zouma could come in to replace the English defender.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp:
The Liverpool boss rejected the idea that he would make wholesale changes on Saturday with an eye on the Champions League, stating that this would be unfair.
"How could we say we rest 3 or 4 players who are able to play?" he asked. "What about Fair Play? It should not be allowed and I won't think about it."
The German also made it clear he wasn't taking top-four for granted yet. "Chelsea could win all their remaining games," he explained. "We need to make sure that's not enough (for them to get into the top four). We are desperate for the points, just like Stoke."
Stoke manager Paul Lambert:
Lambert refused to criticise his players' effort, despite their spot in the league's bottom three. "They players have given me absolutely everything," he said. "If we had taken a little bit more care in the final third we wouldn't be in this position. We are still in with a fight though."
The Stoke boss is clear on what his side need to do to stay up. "We definitely need to win two of our last three games," he said. "All we can do is try our best to win all three."
He was also confident over his previous record against Liverpool. "I've won at Anfield as a player and never lost a match there in five as a manager," he stated. "My record is pretty decent.
Did you know?
Despite Paul Lambert's self-noted record at Anfield, Stoke have never won a top-flight league game at Liverpool's famous ground. Furthermore, Jurgen Klopp's side are unbeaten at home in the league this season.
