There are certain preconceptions that go with signing Brazilian players, particularly in England. The idea is that they are talented, but often temperamental and not cut out physically for English football.
All of those criticisms were levelled at Firmino when he joined Liverpool from Hofffenheim in 2015, but after a season that has seen him score 27 goals and assists a further 17 in all competitions, people are finally starting to sit up and take notice.
When Liverpool take to the field in the Champions League final in Kiev on Saturday, all eyes will be on Mohamed Salah, but perhaps they should be on the Brazilian who has directly contributed to 18 goals in 12 Champions League games in his side's march to the final.
Make no mistake, Firmino is absolutely key to Liverpool and their desire to press opposition side from the front.
No Liverpool player covered more distance in the Premier League this season than the Samba star, with his total of 347.7km working out to an average of 11.3km per game.
His defensive contribution is also clear, having made more interceptions than any other Liverpool forward this season (18).
Finally, whilst Salah and Sadio Mane may be the two Liverpool players most associated with pace and dynamism, Firmino completed more sprints than any other Liverpool player in the Premier League (2,353 at an average of 76.3 per 90 minutes).
Saturday's final in Kiev will provide Firmino with the perfect stage to showcase his talents and show why he is everybit as important to his side as his much vaunted team-mates.
