An inspired display from sibstitute Gareth Bale, combined with a horror show from 'Reds' goalkeeper Loris Karius helped 'Los Blancos' to a third European title on the bounce, but they weren't the only ones celebrating come the full-time whistle.
Real Madrid's victory on Saturday means they will move into Pot 1 for next season, with Tottenham taking up their place in Pot 2 after performing the best of any team in Pot 3 this season.
As if that weren't bad enough for Liverpool, who would have claimed a place in Pot 1 themselves with a win, they will now go into next season's competition in Pot 3 as England's lowest-ranked side.
There is still hope for Liverpool though, who could be promoted to Pot 2 should Benfica and Basel fail to make the Group Stage.
Should things remain as they are, there is the potential for a group of death including: Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool and Inter Milan.
