Liverpool retire Diogo Jota's number 20 shirt in posthumous honour

It's official. No one will ever wear the '20' shirt again for Liverpool. The English club announced in a statement on Friday the retirement of the number in posthumous tribute to Diogo Jota, who recently died in a traffic accident alongside his brother André Silva.
"This decision is a recognition not only of the immeasurable contribution that our boy from Portugal made to the successes of the Reds, but also of the profound personal impact he had on his teammates, colleagues and supporters and the lasting connections he built with them.
The shock and grief at his passing will continue to be felt for a long time and the club supports and sends love to Rute, her three children, her parents and the rest of her family and friends (and those of André). His memory and contribution will be immortalised by his association with the number 20.
Diogo Jota came to us in 2020, earned the number '20' and wore it with honour, distinction and affection. As far as Liverpool Football Club is concerned, he will forever be our number 20," the statement read. A decision that moves the world of football and praises the human factor at Anfield.
