Injuries to Emre Can and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain exposed Liverpool's scant midfield, which did an excellent job to hold on and reach the Champions League final under the circumstances.
However, if Liverpool are to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title next season, they are going to have to add depth to that midfield.
Reports in Germany suggest Jurgen Klopp is looking no further than the United States international Christian Pulisic.
The 19-year-old has risen through Dortmund's youth system to break into the first team this season, netting four goals and six assists in his 32 Bundesliga appearances.
Pulisic plays predominantly on the right wing in a 4-2-3-1 formation so would be an ideal replacement for Sadio Mane, with the Senegalese dropping further back into central midfield.
Klopp will face competition from German champions Bayern Munich though, who are also rumoured to be interested in the €60million-rated youngster.
