On a rapid counter, Japanese striker Takumi Minamino, on loan from Liverpool, put Southampton ahead against Tuchel's Chelsea in the first half. The Blues lacked the cutting edge in the first 45.

Southampton and Chelsea came into Saturday's game in very contrasting form. Tuchel's men came into the match on the back of five straight wins in all competitions. However, they had their minds on Tuesday's Champions League clash and that showed in the first half.

Southampton showed more intensity and Minamino put the Saints ahead in the 33rd minute. A superb counter and the Saints led at the interval.

The Liverpool loanee, who was not getting much game time at his parent club, showed plenty of composure and waited for Azpilicueta to go to ground before beating Mendy.

It was Minamino's second goal for Southampton in the Premier League. He is showing why Liverpool paid Salzburg eight million euros for him. Chelsea have work to do in the second half.
