Liverpool 'devastated' by tragic passing of Diogo Jota

The football world was in shock on Thursday 3 June 2025 after news broke of the tragic death of Liverpool star Diogo Jota in a road accident in Zamora, Spain, along with his 26-year-old brother Andre Silva, who played for Penafiel.
The loss of the 28-year-old winger, who had recently won the Premier League with the Reds and the Nations League with Portugal this season, has prompted a wave of messages from clubs, competitions and players alike expressing their condolences.
Statements had been issued by a number of clubs, and finally Liverpool FC, which was Diogo Jota's current club, has spoken out following the player's shocking death.
"Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota. The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.
Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss. We will continue to provide them with our full support," reads the statement.
Diogo Jota had so far played five seasons at the club, making 182 official appearances for the Reds, scoring 65 goals and 21 assists.
