The club released their list of retained players for the 2018/19 season on Friday, and in doing so confirmed the departures of both Emre Can and Jon Flanagan. Both players' contracts have run out at the club, and they will be released on a free transfer.
In the case of Emre Can, the news comes as no surprise to anyone. The German has been widely expected to leave the club for the majority of the season, after failing to sign a new contract. After joining from Bayer Leverkeusen in 2014 in a £10m deal, he made 167 appearances for the club.
He is rumoured to be on his way to Juventus, and the purchases of Fabinho and Naby Keita show that the club have been ready for his departure for a while.
Flanagan, meanwhile, hasn't played very much football for Jurgen Klopp's side over the past few seasons. The academy graduate was a bright prospect a few years back, however a major injury sidelined him for a significant period, and he has struggled to replicate his form of old ever since.
