GOAL! FRANCE! MBAPPE! 4-2! What a move! It all starts with Hugo Lloris and several passes later it ends with Giroud laying in Mbappe on the overlap and clearly full of confidence he strokes a first-time finish across Armani and into the far corner for his second of the game. Hernandez's low cross from the left it met by Matuidi and his effort deflects into the path of Mbappe, who takes a touch before firing low beneath Armani and into the back of the net at the near post. Fazio and Armani fail to communicate and almost let Griezmann in. the substitutes backpass cuts out his goalkeeper an dGriezmann siezes on it, but he can only prod an effort wide of the gaping goal under strong pressure. A change for Argentina at the break as Federico Fazio replaces Marcos Rojo. If Rojo couldn't deal with Mbappe's pace I don't fancy Fazio's chances.

HT: France 1-1 Argentina. An entertaining first 45 here then as we go in level at the break. France took the lead early on from the spot, with Antoine Griezmann tucking home after an outrageous run from Kylian Mbappe, but Angel Di Maria's stunner just before the inverval has levelled things up.

GOAL! FRANCE! GRIEZMANN (PEN)! 1-0! The Atletico Madrid man steps up and sends Armani the wrong way to open the scoring! It may be Griezmann on the scoresheet but all the credit for that goes to Kylian Mbappe.
  • 11'
PENALTY! FRANCE! STONEWALL! Mbappe picks the ball up just outside of his own box and he bursts. Like the roadrunner he's immediately away from two challenges in midfield before nudging the ball around the outside of Rojo as he heads for the box. True to form, Rojo throws out an arm to block the starlet off before completing the job with a push and the referee immediately points to the spot. No arguments and Rojo is booked.
  • 9'
OFF THE BAR! What an effort from Antoine Griezmann! He takes the leather off the ball with the power of the strike and Armani doesn't even move. For a second it looks destined for the top corner, but the effort doesn't quite get the requisite dip and it crashes into the crossbar and back into play. So close!

Argentina's road to the last 16: The 'Albiceleste' were held to a chock 1-1 draw by Iceland in their opener, before being swept aside 3-0 by an impressive Croatia outfit next up. Jorge Sampaoli has called for his players to help Leo Messi: "He needs the support from his team-mates, only then will he be able able to play at his best. His human side is amazing. He is a person who feels, who cries, who suffers, who's happy when Argentina win. I've seen him sad and I've seen him happy. People have said he doesn't enjoy playing for Argentina. That's not true."

Anotine Griezmann is hoping to be back at his best for this one: "I hope to raise my level again in the last 16. It was the same at the Euro(s). It wasn't until the last 16 that I hit my stride. So we'll see. I have confidence in my game."
  • PRVW
So, no Sergio Aguero or Gonzalo Higuain for the 'Albiceleste', who make just one change from their vital victory over Nigeria in their final group game. Boca Juniors' Cristian Pavon comes in, with Lionel Messi presumably set to play through the middle.
