Aston Villa V Liverpool - As it happened.

Join me at Villa Park for this Premier League game between Aston Villa and Liverpool.

WOW - I don't even know where to start with that one. No, the headline is not a typo, that just happened! Thanks for joining me at Villa Park for what will certainly go down as one of the most extraordinary goals in Premier LEague history!
Full time here at Villa Park!
Alexander-Arnold sees his free-kick come to nothing.
Salah wins a free-kick after Nakamba cuts him down.
Villa definitely look the more likely to get the tenth goal as we move into the third minute of added time!
Substitute Traore gets an opportunity but it's out for a corner after a good Liverpool challenge.
The real tragedy is the lack of a crowd for this one. I can't even imagine what it would be like inside Villa Park if the fans were here!
Villa's final change sees Trezeguet off for Bertrand Traore. Trezeguet has been superb tonight.
Villa came forward again and there is a lot of space in the game but they give it away.
Liverpool have had over 70% possession in both halves of this match by the way!
Milner sees a cross deflected wide for a corner after a pretty average Liverpool counter.
Watkins hits the bar! The cross in from Trezeguet and he does well to get to it - unlucky.
Liverpool look understandably stunned and deflated. A good ball in from Milner who's come off the bench but Jota heads into the hands of Martinez.
Smart enough double save from Adrian, Nakamba had a good chance for 8.
First changes for Villa: El Mohamady on for Cash and Douglas Luiz makes way for Nakamba.
Good ball in from Trent is headed poorly wide by Minamino.
A few half-chances for Liverpool but it breaks down again.
Echoes of Germany - Brazil 2014. I can't think of another result against a side defending their Premier League title. Klopp's biggest ever defeat in management and I've never watched a Premier League game like it!
GOAL VILLA!!! A great ball forward from McGinn and Grealish is all on his own to finish like the football genius he is, a little chip into the bottom left. I don't want to use the word unbelievable again but these really are astounding scenes at Villa Park.
Salah sees a shot blocked and into the hands of Martinez.
You can't help but notice the number of holes in this Liverpool attack, so unlike them but they are making it unbelievably easy for the Villa attack.
Trezeguet plays a great ball through to Watkins who is all on his own with an unbelievable chance to score his fourth but he opens up his body and a pretty poor effort is well saved by Adrian.
More good defending from Matty Cash as he breaks up a Liverpool attack and clears it away for a Liverpool throw.
Villa are starting to slow the game down for the first time, trying to hold possession and break up play as opposed to bombing forward as much as they were previously.
Surely it is over now. Liverpool of course aren't giving up but they aren't threatening Villa too much.
Liverpool: Milner on for Firmino.
GOAL VILLA!!! I don't believe what I'm watching! Jack Grealish takes on a simple square pass from Watkins and cuts inside before seeing his shot take a deflection off Fabinho and beat Adrian again. You've got to feel for him slightly, at fault for the first goal but so many deflections have left him completely helpless.
Another ball in from Grealish is brought down superbly by Barkley on the edge of the box but its cleared away.
Liverpool are playing it around the back, not too much urgency from them.
Tyrone Mings sees his shot from just inside the corner of the box well wide. They aren't parking the bus by any means.
Villa free-kick is claimed easily by Adrian.
Liverpool: Curtis Jones on for Joe Gomez. They don't have anything to lose!
GOAL LIVERPOOL! Could they?! A snapshot from Salah after a through ball from Firmino. Great finish and still half an hour to go here at Villa Park...
Big chance that for Minamino. Robertson puts another good ball in but it just bobbles into the hands of Adrian.
Barkley came forward looking for a sixth but he trips and the move comes to nothing.
GOAL VILLA!!! Ross Barkley just picks up the ball after a one-two with Grealish and his ambitious effort deflects into the top corner past an outstretched Adrian. A goal on debut for Barkley, another assist from Grealish, and surely the Champions dead and buried!
A bit sloppy at the back from Villa but they survive and get it away.
Very ambitious hit from Barkley is miles over the bar.
Really good hold-up play for hat-trick scorer Watkins and he wins the free-kick from Joe Gomez. You feel like that will be his primary role this half.
Villa come into the game a little bit more but Trezeguet loses it and it's out for a Liverpool throw.
Jota is furious after conceding an attacking foul on the edge of the Villa box. Not sure about that one!
Watkins cross is weak and easily claimed by Adrian.
Liverpool starting brightly as you'd expect. Robertson sees his cross all the way through and out for a Villa throw.
Douglas Luiz breaks up a Liverpool counter with a good foul.
Just one half-time change and no suprise that it is for Liverpool. Minamino is on for Naby Keita.
Back underway - what on earth does the second-half have in store?
WOW! Half-Time here at Villa Park. Don't go anywhere though, this one is far from over!
Free-kick Villa in their own area as we reach the end of three minutes of added time.
Villa holding on for now as they disrupt another Liverpool attack.
Salah puts Robertson in who sees his half-volley well saved by Martinez.
Another Liverpool cross cleared away, this time by Konsa.
Villa come forward on the counter. Trezeguet sees his shot blocked and it rolls into the hands of a thankful Adrian.
Half-way free-kick for Villa after a foul by Keita.
Liverpool come forward with a good advantage put an awful ball in from Diego Jota goes out for a goal-kick,
Liverpool aren't out of this but the defence will get a serious talking to at half-time!
GOAL VILLA!!! The resulting free-kick is put back across the face by Trezeguet for Ollie Watkins to tap in for his hat-trick! VAR had a long look at it but the goal stands. Superb from Villa put questions have got to be asked of the Liverpool back-line. Famously solid but they have been very shaky indeed today.
Late challenge from Van Dijk to stop Barkley on the counter-attack.
A great ball in from Trent but Jota treads on the ball at the crucial moment and a big chance goes begging again for the champions.
GOAL VILLA!!! A crazy game here at Villa Park gets even better! The corner is headed away before John McGinn hits it on the volley from outside the box. It takes a wicked deflection off Van Dijk and arrows into the bottom corner and past a helpless Adrian.
Another Barley chance! Ridiculously high line from Liverpool and Barkley should've scored but he's denied well by Adrian at his near post.
GOAL LIVERPOOL: Villa caught out of position in defence. It fell to Keita before bouncing into the path of Mo Salah who was 12 yards out and, unlike Firmino earlier, never going to miss
Superb again from Villa! Grealish picks out another superb pass to play in Ross Barkley who takes a good touch before seeing his shot just edge wide of the right-hand post. The debutant will feel like he should have a brace by now.
Liverpool try to work a chance but Mings steps in eventually and the move comes to an end.
Away well by Matty Cash.
Another cross from Robertson deflected out for a corner.
Liverpool come forward again - Jota tries to chip Martinez put the Villa keeper is alert to save well.
Ross Barkley carries it away and wins a throw level with the Liverpool area.
Jota has a weak volley from distance easily saved. Make no mistake, Liverpool have easily created enough chances to be level but Ollie Watkins and Aston Villa have just been superbly clinical.
GOAL VILLA: Unbelievable from Ollie Watkins! Grealish puts a good ball through but he still has Gomez to beat - he cuts inside the England international brilliantly and slams it straight into the top-right. Sensational from the youngster! VAR had a look but the goal stands despite appeals for offside.
Back-to-back corners for Liverpool. The second one is cleared away.
Good Firmino run but a weak shot is turned away easily in the end for a corner.
Another massive opportunity for Liverpool! This time it is the Villa keeper with an awful ball out from the back - Firmino can't capitalise though and Konsa recovers it.
A moment to breathe here at Villa Park as Liverpool hold possession in their own half and slow the game down.
Great save from Martinez to deny Firminio who should've scored after being played in by Salah.
Aston Villa just weathering the storm for now.
Mings puts a Robertson cross out for a corner. Much better from Liverpool.
A searching ball from Salah for Firminio runs all the way through. All action this one!
Headed away well by goalscorer Watkins.
Couple of big Liverpool chances. Keita has a shot blocked well by Mings and Robertson's shot is deflected wide for a corner.
Brilliant from Tyrone Mings who picks up a long ball on his own penalty area and carries it forward and follows the play all the way to the Liverpool box before the move breaks down.
MASSIVE CHANCE for Ross Barkley. Brilliant work from Grealish and Barkley really had to score on debut. They may well look back on that one as a big chance missed.
Poor cross from Trent and a Villa goal-kick.
Liverpool looking to have their own period of dominance now. Robertson's cross is blocked but better from the champions.
GOAL VILLA: An awful moment for Adrian! He gives it away to Grealish when trying to play it out from the back who squares it for Ollie Watkins to tuck home for his first Premier League goal! Lovely composure from Grealish and a simple finish for the young striker.
Very good start from Villa here - cross from cash brushes past Alexander-Arnold and out for a goal kick.
Villa starting positively, Grealish and Watkins combine well but the cross comes to nothing.
Well, the sixth Premier League game of the day is underway. It has been quite a day for English football so far, lets hope for more of the same here in Birmingham!
We are underway here!
WOW - I don't even know where to start with that one. No, the headline is not a typo, that just happened! Thanks for joining me at Villa Park for what will certainly go down as one of the most extraordinary goals in Premier League history!

The teams are out as we approach kick-off at Villa Park!
Villa are looking for their first league win in this fixture since 2014 when Gabby Agbonlahor scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at Anfield. They did beat Liverpool last season but it was in that bizarre EFL Cup game when Liverpool had to play their reserves.
On Villa's side of things, Ross Barkley is starting on his debut!
So, no Sadio Mane after his positive COVID-19 test and Allison out with a shoulder injury headline the Liverpool team news. How much of an effect will it have?
Liverpool: Adrian, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Keita, Salah, Firmino, Jota Subs: Kelleher, Milner, Henderson, Jones, Minamino, Origi, N. Williams.
Aston Villa: Martínez, Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett, McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Barkley, Trezeguet, Watkins, Grealish Subs: Davis, Nakamba, Traoré, El Ghazi, Steer, Hourihane, Ahmed Elmohamady
