Newcastle are going through serious difficulties on the field. The Magpies are bottom of the Premier League and they have just seven points, six away from safety.
Therefore, the Saudi investment fund which got hold of the club want to spend big in the winter transfer winow. Lots of names have been mentioned, but the main target for that window is Lingard.
According to 'The Times', Newcastle want the Man Utd attacker to be their big player at St James' Park. And they think they can sign the player because Lingard is not getting much game time.
So far this season, Lingard has played just 11 matches and he has scored two goals and got one assist. His role at the club is secondary and he would not be against leaving although we have to wait and see what Rangnick does with him.
It is also a great opportunity for Man Utd. If the new coach decides there are no changes, the club could sell him this January to at least get some money for him. That is because the player's contract expires in June.
If that were not enough, the cited source says that even negotiations have begun between all partes involved. Newcastle's plan is to make him a very important player so that he does not have any doubts on joining them.
