Leverkusen waiting on Wirtz to give green light for new deal until 2028

The 21-year-old German sensation could look to spend another season at Leverkusen despite being chased by multiple suitors across Europe. According to 'kicker', the reigning Bundesliga champions are ready to lock in a new deal for Wirtz and are only waiting on the player's green light.
The same report informs that the new contract would see Florian Wirtz pen a three-year deal valid until 2028, making him one of the highest-paid players at the BayArena. It is understood that a €125m release clause valid from after the 2026 World Cup would also be included.
League rivals Bayern Munich have actively been working to sign the Koln native, with Manchester City and Real Madrid also linked to the talented playmaker over the past few months, but, as things stand, signs continue to point towards a Leverkusen stay under Xabi Alonso.
Wirtz is said to want to keep on growing and maturing as a player in a pressure-free environment, allowing for optimum preparation ahead of the upcoming World Cup. That said, whether he will be able to reject lucrative offers from such European giants remains to be seen.
Should he decide to leave this summer, clubs would need to splash out a considerable amount of money, with Leverkusen likely to set a price tag of over €100m. Wirtz has been on red-hot form, scoring 15 goals and providing 12 assists in 39 appearances in total for Alonso's side.
