Once again this summer, the rumor has it that Neymar and Mbappé, the top stars of the Parisian club, will be leaving the French capital. But Leonardo, the club's sporting director, is not prepared to let that happen.
In an interview with 'Journal du Dimanche', Leonardo discussed his two stars' future. "Nothing tells us they won't be here next season. They still have a two-year contract and we are already looking to the future. We want to move forward," he explained.
It is Neymar who seems closest to leaving the club, but Leonardo denies it. "We haven't talked about it anymore. I think he was happy here. He's had a great season, and he's been very involved," he replied.
About Mbappé, he made clear his intention to make him the reference point of the club. "He is the future of PSG. It's what everyone wants. The ideal would be to renew it. Neymar and Mbappé are 28 and 21 years old and are here," he said.
"There's not much to think about. We're lucky to have them because they're a huge asset. Afterwards, we have to find the solution to continue the adventure together," added Leonardo, on the subject.
He also discussed the future of his current coach, Thomas Tuchel. "He has one more year left on his contract and will be on the bench next season. He's done a good job, the results are good. We have time to think about the renewal. I haven't sounded out any other coaches," he simply replied.
And he also addressed the club's women's section, specifically to launch a harsh criticism of their great championship rival, Lyon, whom he accused of disloyalty, for the way he had taken his coach, who had become the Rhone club's sporting director.
"I have to see him. The departure of Bruno Cheyrou has been a great surprise. Lyon have contacted many of our players. Two youngsters have left for Lyon, but they have also been contacted by the professional team. If that's the way things are, we'll do the same for the girls as for the boys," warned the PSG director of sport.
The rivalry between Lyon, the great dominators of French women's football, and PSG, the challengers, is threatening to reach new heights as a result of this controversy.
