Atletico Madrid splashed out and did everything they could to convince Griezmann to stay at Atletico. The Frenchman famously rejected Barcelona's offer at the last minute and released it in a famous documentary which caused controversy.
But Barcelona still like the French footballer and world champion despite him rejecting them and after the club looked for a younger striker than him. In the list many names appeared like Jovic's, a player who is now almost guaranteed to go to Real Madrid.
The French daily 'Le Parisien' says that Barcelona's interest in Griezmann has been reactivated, especially after the Champions League elimination at the hands of Liverpool.
The media outlet indicated that his signing would excite the 'socios' (club members) ahead of next season and that Griezmann would accept a pay cut.
Griezmann would earn less than the 23 million euros he receives currently and Barcelona would pay the 120 million euro buyout clause starting from June. Something which Jordi Mestre, the Barca vice president, had already made reference to.
"His quality is indisputable and there is no doubt about that. We must analyse if signing him can interest us. We have a fantastic stats man in Oscar Grau who we can trust," he assured.
Another argument in favour of Griezmann leaving is the situation of other Atletico players. The Frenchman had to dry his eyes after hearing of Godin's departure, Lucas signed for Bayern, Filipe Luis has not renewed so many new faces are expected to be in the team next season.
