During Ferran Torres' presentation at Barcelona, club president Joan Laporta spoke about possible new signings which the Catalan side can make in the coming weeks and he surprised everyone with his comments.
That is because one of his targets is Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland, one of the most eyecatching and sought after players in the market. The best clubs in the world fight for him daily.
Despite the salary cap, Laporta did not hesitate in showing his optimism and he made it clear that Haaland is on Barca's horizon: "With Ferran, we have gone for a signing before complying with financial fair play rules. We're working on that to be able to register him. And we're also working towards next season to get a strong team. Everything's possible if it's done well and I'm sure it will turn out very well. I'll not talk about specific players because it doesn't benefit us at all. We're working on positions the coach wants to strengthen."
On the question whether the club could afford the signing of the Norwegian if Morata also arrives, Laporta said the following: "We are working on having a competitive team. For us, Ferran was a necessary signing. Everything's possible. We're keeping an eye on the market. Barca are a reference and all great players want to come to Barca. We have to work very well taking into account many parameters. We're progressing well. These incompatabilities do not exist if things are done well. There are some major necessities for this season."
"We keep on being a model in the market. Everyone can get prepared because we are back and we're keen to do it very well. We're goiong to recover the specific weight which we have to have. Barca's resurgence is a reality," Laporta concluded.
