France face Finland in a friendly match and Portugal in a Nations League encounter, but Ferland Mendy will have to miss both.
The reason for his absence, according to 'L'Equipe', is Real Madrid's refusal to release him.
Apparently, the club referred to muscle issues to prevent Mendy being called up by the French national team.
"Real Madrid, eager to protect their left back from potential muscle problems, were not happy about him being called up," the paper says.
Mendy's non-selection for France has led to lots of criticism because he is currently Madrid's number one left back. He had been selected for the last two international breaks and was decisive in the win over Croatia in October.
That said, 'AS' says that Real Madrid have flatly denied these accusations. They claim it is a tactical decision by coach Didier Deschamps.
The coach went for Lucas Hernandez and Digne at left back and Pavard and Dubois at right back.
