Koeman gives Pjanic work to do

Miralem Pjanic got his first minutes as a Barcelona player in the Gamper Trophy versus Elche. The Bosnian obviously looked short of match fitness and Ronald Koeman, the Barca coach, urged him to work hard to get fit as soon as possible.

Despite the fact a revolution was expected, the truth is that the signings (apart from the return of the players out on loan) are lacking. Miralem Pjanic is the main signing this summer.

The Bosnian midfielder has arrived at the Camp Nou from Juventus to strengthen the Barca midfield. He made his debut this Saturday.

Pjanic got his first minutes as a Barca player against Elche in the Joan Gamper Trophy match. He looked short of match fitness despite improving as the game went along.

This was always going to be the case due to the fact the Bosnian international has not had the opportunity to train as he would like this summer due to the coronavirus. Pjanic got COVID-19 before joining the Catalans.

That affected his preparation and Ronald Koeman, his new coach, insited on that in the post-match press conference. "You can't draw many conclusions from his match because he has work more on his physical state. He's had the coronavirus and he hasn't been able to train," the Dutchman said.

The Barcelona coach hopes Pjanic picks up this week ahead of Barca's first league game. The Bosnian will be a key player in Barcelona's season
