Klopp wants five changes: "They ignore the welfare of the players"

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp said at a press conference that he thought it was better to allow five changes in the Premier League rather than three. In his opinion, the "upper echelons" of the FA do not take the well-being of the footballers into account.

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp warned that they will not stop fighting for the return of the five substitutions per game to the Premier League and accused the management of not thinking about the health of the players

"We are not going to stop fighting for it because it is the right thing to do. When people tell me we don't make enough changes, that's the problem with the third change, because the third change or sometimes the second change you have to keep in case something happens," Klopp said at a press conference.

"You can't make changes early because you might end the game with nine or ten players. Five changes is the right thing to do," he added. The five substitution rule was removed from the Premier League for this season, but continues to be used in the other major leagues, as well as in continental competitions.

"If we could vote, it would be accepted with 15 or 16 votes in favour, but it hasn't happened, which means that people in high places think differently from coaches," he said. "This is not a good sign, to be honest, because it shows that they ignore the welfare of the players," he added.

Furthermore, Klopp said that if the situation does not change, it will be the English national team that could pay for it with a view to the European Championship. "Next summer, it will be a problem for Gareth Southgate because many of the players he selects will have played three games a week".
