Klopp's curse with Spanish teams in European football

Last year's Champions League final was one of those matches that will be hard to forget for all football fans, regardless of their team preferences. It saw Real Madrid lift their 13th Champions League title, and Liverpool have their dreams crushed by a team that left them without their star player in the first half of the game. The final result was 3 -1, and was caused not exclusively by a poor defensive performance by Liverpool, but also by painful mistakes by goalkeeper Karius; a disappoiting result that Liverpool players are undoubtely trying to forget. 

Indeed, Jurgen Klopp doesn't have a good run with Spanish teams, and his curse with them seems to have started when he first became a manager for the English side. Since his start in 2015, he has disputed two European finals in three season, all with negative results. 

His first was in 2016 in the Europa League, when the title was disputed against a Sevilla who proved superior and won by 3 - 1. The second one, as mentioned, was their UCL 2017-2018 final where the score was, curiously, the same as against Sevilla two years prior. 

In European championships, the Spanish are a curse for Klopp, the teams that have never let him fulfill his dream of a European title. He hopes to break the curse in this edition of the Champions League, with an intense and complicated game against Barcelona in the semi final of the competition.

In this occasion, the German manager will have two opportunities to obtain it. The first will take place on Wednesday 1 May at the Camp Nou, the second, the 7th, but in friendly home territory. If his side wins against the Catalans, the manager will be on his way to the final. We will see if, on this occasion, Klopp manages to lift his coveted European title.
