A winnner at last summer's Confederations Cup in Russia, Kimmich is hoping to use the experience from that tournament to try and help Germany retain their world title this summer.
Having rested established players such as Mats Hummels, Mesut Ozil and Thomas Muller in that tournament, the versatile Bayern player thinks that the experience gained by those young players in that tournament will be an advantage over the next month.
"If you perform well, then you get the respect of your team-mates. At that Confederations Cup I felt like a leader." he told the 'Guardian'.
However, Kimmich admits that the triumph does not compete with the importance of winning a World Cup, but feels it had a positive effect on the squad nonetheless.
He added: "We have a big belief we can do well again. Last year helped us believe even more.
"The World Cup is much more special, of course, and it’s my first time. But I feel ready. Now we need to make even better memories.”
