Aitor Karanka has left his role as manager of Nottingham Forest this week, after asking the club to release him from his contract. The Spaniard had come under increasing pressure in recent weeks, in spite of Forest being well in the mix for a play off place; currently sitting in seventh in the Championship table.
It is understood that Karanka wished to leave the role because he felt that there were too many outside influences disrupting his day-to-to running of the first team squad. Furthermore, it is also said that Karanka believed that there was a lack of stability at the City Ground; a lack of control, coupled with constant speculation surrounding his personal future, had effected both his and his team's progress and mentality.
Also, it is believed that the only support the manager felt from the club was from the fan base; and while he greatly appreciated the affection of the supporters, he felt that outside influences had made his job untenable. In spite of only just having tendered his resignation with Forest, Karanka is said to be keen to make a swift return to management.
Nottingham Forest released a statement confirming the news this week, which read as follows: 'Aitor Karanka has asked to be released from his contract as the manager of Nottingham Forest Football Club. The club have agreed to this request and the terms of departure have been agreed. Both parties wish each other every success for the future. There will be no further comment from either party. Simon Ireland will take charge of first-team affairs until a new manager is appointed.'
