In his last game with England, Kane made history. With his goal against Italy, he overtook Rooney and can now call himself his country's highest goalscorer.
Ahead of the Euros qualifying game against Ukraine, his country's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak wanted to congratulate Kane for his achievement. In a video-call posted on social media, he emphasised the scale of what he'd done.
"Kane, you're a phenomenal captain, a great role model. The whole country's proud of you and we feel lucky to have you", Sunak said during the call, who praised the striker's "humility", which is something his own teammates have recognised too.
The 29 year old Tottenham man admitted that he had still not digested how much his achievement means, but said it was "a special night". "I love playing for my country, I want to represent it the best possible way", Kane said, whose next objective may be to break the Premier League goal-scoring record.
The forward has so far got 54 goals in 81 games for the Three Lions. It's a number which he'll be trying to raise in the game against Ukraine.
Kane, who has got 271 goals in 425 games, is ahead of Wayne Rooney by one goal. Behind them are Bobby Charlton (49), Gary Lineker (48) and Vivian Woodward/Jimmy Greaves (44).
