Serie A is already expressing its indignation at certain refereeing errors, after Matchday 2 saw the Juventus-Bologna match find itself at the centre of a scandal.
In the 71st minute, with the 'Bianconeri' trailing 0-1, Samuel Iling-Junior brought Dan Ndoye down inside the box, preventing him from scoring the equaliserfor Bologna. The referee and VAR assistant Francesco Fournea's refusal to intervene for a foul deemed "obvious" by most experts led to much controversy in Italy.
What's more, the main referee turned towards Bologna coach Thiago Motta and showed him a yellow card for complaining. The head of refereeing, Gianluca Rocchi, decided to intervene in the situation, and the Italian Referees' Association (AIA) acknowledged the refereeing error.
According to 'Corriere dello Sport', Marco Di Bello is unlikely to referee another Serie A match for two or even three months, as he would have to serve a two-match suspension, then spend time as a VAR, 4th official and referee a Serie B match before being able to return to the highest national level.
