Negotiations between the two clubs have reached a standstill, after Napoli's asking price of £60million is reportedly £9million too dear for the Manchester side, who have started to expand their search elsewhere.
Although Jorginho remains City's first-choice, according to 'Sportsmail', Pep Guardiola's side are considering a move for Real Madrid's Mateo Kovacic if Napoli refuse to lower their asking price.
The midfielder himself has warned the Serie A outfit that he will refuse to sign a new deal with them if they do not push forward his potential move to the Etihad stadium.
His agent, Joao Santos, told 'CalcioNapoli24': ''Jorginho is a great professional, but this is the opportunity of a lifetime for him and his family. If he does not go to Manchester, he will not be very happy.''
''As of today, he remains a Napoli player. Manchester City? We must not be hypocrites, any player would like to go and have a starting position with Guardiola.''
''Napoli and City have not found an agreement. There is a distance of about €10million. City are now working on their second choice. The player is waiting for Napoli's decision: he still has two years on his contract, we will not renew.''
