The England defender, 25, says that Burnley need to start picking up points sooner rather than later to avoid a season of battling against the drop.
Currently sat in last place of the Premier league, without a win in five games, the 'clarets' finished seventh last season,so Tarkowski is naturally keen to avoid a campaign threatened by relegation.
Having now dropped out of the Europa League Sean Dyche's men can focus on picking up points in the Premier League, something Tarkowski is keen to do as he told reporters:
''It's still early so we're not scrapping for points but we could do with getting some points on the board,''
''It's not a case of it being the last game of the season where we need a win or else we're going down, it's not that desperate. But we want to start working our way up the table and we need to pick our performances up.
''We had a great start last year but there's probably a bit more expectation on us. People are picking us out a bit more but we'll stick together, work hard and we know what we need to do.
''The simple fact of the matter is that we're conceding goals and we're not scoring them. We need to start keeping more clean sheets and we need to start sticking the ball in the back of the net.
''The sooner we start doing that the better but we're a good, honest, hard-working group so we'll figure out the problems and hopefully we'll come out of the next game with something positive.''
