Former Dutch international Jaap Stam will be the new coach of Major League Soccer side FC Cincinnati, the US team announced Thursday on its website, which did not specify the duration of the contract.
"It's a dream for me to have the opportunity to work in the United States and work in MLS with a club like FC Cincinnatti. I've always liked the country and the mentality of its people," Stam said in statements released by the club.
The former Manchester United, Milan and Ajax player began his coaching career in 2016, when he took the reins at Reading, a club in the English second division, which he managed until 2018.
Jaap Stam, 47, then returned to the Netherlands, where he coached PEC Zwolle in the 18-19 season, before making the leap in the summer of 2019 to one of the biggest names in Dutch football, Feyenoord, where he stayed for just four months after resigning at the end of October.
