"It wasn't the right moment to take a Panenka penalty"

"Zidane told us that we had to keep calm, that we had to have control and dominate play, and that opportunities were gradually going to come along. He was proud of us and he said that this Champions League had to be ours again," he told UEFA.
Ramos remembers the 1-0 goal which he scored in the 15th minute. "We are a team who also know his strengths well and we had been studying how to attack them from set pieces for a long time. We have great headers of the ball and we knew that could be our benefit. In the 1-0 goal, I got my toe to it to make it go into the net," he said.
A goal which Yannick Carrasco cancelled out in the 79th minute. Then, after a goalless extra time, Real Madrid won 5-3 on penalties. Ramos took Real's fourth and he hit it low and to the left of Jan Oblak rather than Panenka style.
"Taking a Panenka penalty is good when people think you aren't going to do it. Oblak and I know each other well and it wasn't the right moment to do it. In the end, the ball ended up in the net which was the important thing," he said.
A final between two Madrid based sides, like in 2014 in Lisbon, saw many Spain players on opposite sides.
"Before the game, I didn't speak to any of my Atletico teammates who I get on with like Juanfran, Koke and Fernando Torres. We were all very focussed and there was no time to talk because there was a lot at stake," he said.
"When it finished, I shook hands with all the Atletico players and give them words of encouragement, especially Juanfran. When you miss a penalty, you have to come back stronger and get over those things which happen in football. You have to show good sportsmanship towards your opponents and help at that time," he added.
