They shared a great deal of time together in the France national team and forged a great friendship, although it may have been said that they did not talk to each other at the time, but Olivier Giroud was upset by Karim Benzema's retirement from the two-time world champions.
A training injury forced the Real Madrid striker to miss the World Cup in Qatar and yet Didier Deschamps never took him off the list, so the striker could have returned for the World Cup knock-out rounds.
Giroud, in an interview with 'Europa 1', was asked about the relationship the 'Merengues' player had with the French coach. "I'm not going to comment on that. In any case, we were sad that he left the training camp as he did during the preparation for the World Cup in Qatar, knowing that it was the last one for him. To leave because of an injury is a pity," he said.
"It's a pity Benzema retired from the national team the way he did. It was his decision, but I would have preferred it to have had a different ending," added the Milan striker on Benzema's departure from France.
