Is he staying? Is he going? What is for sure is that he's been pictured hugging president Joan Laporta. Barcelona shared on their social media platforms a photo of Messi exchanging a few kind words with the new president after the official photoshoot of the group which, incidentally, caused an uproar of memes on social media.
The message could be interpreted as a hint towards the captain staying at the club. The organisation accompanied a pair of images, showing a meeting between the two, with a shaking hands emoji. Shortly after, they pulled aside other first-team players to have photos speaking with president Laporta.
Fans soon took to Twitter to make the post viral, where the comments section filled with pleas for the Argentine to renew his contract as soon as possible. This matter is still up in the air, with his contract ending in June of this year - i.e. in a few months.
The photograph caught the eye more for what it shows Joan Laporta to represent as president of Barcelona. In his first phase in charge of the club, he was the architect and witness of one of the most successful periods of the club's history and, despite having lost 'El Clasico', he continues to rekindle good feelings amongst supporters.
