Antonio Conte's Inter want him as soon as possible, but Tottenham don't seem ready to do without the Belgian central defender for half of the season. The condition to negotiate his exit must be in the summer, says the 'Guardian'.
Tottenham could try to sell him in winter, but he has a contract until June 30th and the possibility of finding a buyer seems remote, since he will go for free, therefore it is better to make him finish the season.
And that, which at first seemed to contradict Inter, in the end seems to serve them well to reach a final agreement. Inter will not take him for free in January, but they won't pay for him in the summer either.
The cited British newspaper states that Inter will offer Jan Vertonghen a 3-year contract after the current contract with Tottenham expires. From next January 1, the club will be able to sit down to negotiate with the Belgian international.
