The Spanish FA's Competition Committee have fined Atletico Madrid 12,000 euros for the chants their fans made towards the Barca player Antoine Griezmann. Griezmann used to play at Atletico Madrid. The incident occurred in the matchday 15 game on 1st December in Madrid which saw Barca win 0-1.
The chants, which were not mentioned in the referee's match report, caused the Spanish FA to open disciplinary proceedings against Atletico, after the official complaint issued by La Liga. The punishment has ended up being a fine.
La Liga reported to both the Competition Committee and the Antiviolence Commission what had happened at the Wanda Metropolitano. Several times during the match, around 2000 home supporters in the lower tier of the South goal chanted "Griezmann die."
The Competition Committee had already issued Atletico with a fine after this encounter because of crowd disorder. That was because the referee's match report said that "various objects were thrown, without hitting any player."
