It was an emotional press conference at Barcelona's 'Ciudad Deportiva' training complex as media and players gathered to listen to Iniesta's announcement on Friday afternoon.
"This is my last season [at Barcelona]. It was a well-thought out and long decision. It's a difficult day for me, but I understand the law of life and I cannot give anything more than I have to the club".
Turning his attention to 'Los Cules', the Spanish midfielder offered high praise to the club he has played for since the age of 12: "Barcelona are the best team in the world".
Iniesta moved on to thank his wife, family, teammates, managers, supporters and everyone at the club who has helped him across his 22-year stay at Barcelona.
However, the 33-year-old refused to reveal where he will be heading this summer, inisting that it will be announced "at the end of the season".
When pressed further by a journalist, Iniesta insisted that it won't be for a club in the continent.
"I have always said that I will never play against Barca, so it will be [for a club] outside of Europe. When everything finishes, we will know the destination that I've chosen," the midfielder concluded.
