During an extended interview with 'Ara'. the former Barcelona player talked about his career, his Barcelona exit, his move to Japan and his future. The World Cup winner, who hasn't put a date on his retirement, already knows what he wants to do next.
"I would like to be a manager. I may be wrong but I think I'll end up as a manager. I love football and I love knowing, seeing and visualising. I know myself and I'll probably end up going for the elite side of football, the most competitive," said the Vissel Kobe player.
Regarding a possible return to Barcelona as a coach, Iniesta said: "It will depend on the moment, who is in the club and whether they want to continue or not. Hopefully someday it will be possible. For now, I want to continue enjoying being a player".
Iniesta then also spoke honestly about his move from Barcelona to Japan: "I'm sincere and I say it clearly. A part of me sometimes thinks I wish I was there competing".
But the midfielder was aware of why he couldn't continue in Europe: "There's another part, which is why I left, which is that I don't have what it takes to survive there anymore. There comes a point where I can no longer keep up with that demand, not just in a football sense," he added.
"Now I'm happy. My wish was to stay at Barça until I couldn't walk, that's what I wanted. But I stepped aside because I couldn't keep up with the demands of being a Barça player anymore, of the day to day, to compete to that level. I ran out of steam and could not give what the club needed. Now I enjoy it because I've done the right thing," said Iniesta.
