Imanol Alguacil chases historic farewell at the Bernabeu

The moment of farewell has arrived for the man from Orio. Alguacil will bring the curtain down on his spell with La Real in the Spanish capital, where he will be looking to end an otherwise bittersweet season on a high with a victory against Real Madrid.
Though unable to guide his side to European qualification this term, the boss remains determined to leave his mark at the club. A win on Saturday would not only crown his final act but also secure two second-place rankings in the club's managerial records.
Currently, Alguacil is tied with John Toshack as the coach with the second-highest number of wins in Real Sociedad history, standing on 158 victories. Just behind them sits Alberto Ormaechea on 157, while Benito Diaz leads the all-time chart with 187.
Regarding La Liga results alone, Toshack once again tops the list with 126 wins, followed by Ormaechea and Alguacil, who are currently level on 113.
The outgoing manager now has the opportunity to claim silver outright in both categories. One more win would see him reach 159 victories in all competitions and 114 in the league – a fitting parting gift to the fans and a personal milestone to cherish.
However, the task will be anything but easy, as Real Madrid prepare to honour two club legends in their own farewell – Luka Modric and Carlo Ancelotti – in what promises to be a memorable occasion at the Bernabeu.
