Iker Casillas is one of the best in the world. He was part of Spain's golden ear between 2008 and 2012 which won two European Championships and a World Cup. Casillas, who turns 39 in May, wants to become the Spanish FA president.
This announcement has come after months of silence, monthis in which there has constantly been talk of him playing again. On 1st May 2019, he suffered a heart attack in training at Porto and he had to go to A and E. Since then, he has been the link between the Porto players and board. Porto were the club which took him on in 2015 after his Real Madrid departure which left wounds in the dressing room. Now he could become the head of the RFEF.
Spain won the 2010 World Cup thanks to Iniesta's extra-time strike, but before that, Casillas made a match saving stop to deny Robben. He had gone past Puyol and had a golden opportunity to put Holland ahead in the final in South Africa. Iker's right foot, which had been key in Euro 2008 and hundreds of times for Real Madrid, prevented Holland from leading. Casillas became a legend for Spain and Spanish football.
He made his debut for Real Madrid at San Mames in 1999 and he won five La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues, two Copa del Reys, two UEFA Super Cups, two Intercontinental Cups and a Club World Cup among other trophies. He was the captain between 2010 and 2015 after Raul's departure and only Raul made more Real appearances than Iker: 741 to Casillas' 725. And Sergio Ramos recently went ahead of Casillas to become Spain's most capped player. Casillas became a legend a long time ago.

He was chosen the best keeper in the world between 2008 and 2012 for five years running and was also a regular in the UEFA and FIFA prizes. Despite all this, he has been criticised by some as they say he became too powerful in the Real Madrid dressing room. He had a very public spat with Mourinho which saw him being dropped by the Portuguese for a La Liga game at Malaga. Mourinho said Antonio Adan was better than Casillas and that was the beginning of his end.
Now, after a career full of success on the field, he wants to become the president of the Spanish Football Federation. To do that, he will have to win another match: beat the current president, Luis Rubiales.
