"A goal in the semisfinal of the Champions is important, everyone knows that. I wouldn't celebrate a goal against Liverpool at Anfield because of the respect I have for the fans just as I didn't celebrate with Ajax in Groningen at the time," Luis Suarez said when asked about his former club.
He also took the opportunity to thank Liverpool for everything they gave him when he was a part of their team. "I'm grateful to Liverpool for everything they gave me as a player. It will be special to play there again," he said.
"At Liverpool I became more mature. I was captain and it was one of the unforgettable things in my career. I'm in the elite thanks to Liverpool," he said.
Luis Suarez predicted a difficult duel. "The match will be difficult, the opponent is very tough, but we are aware that we have our weapons," he said.
The striker was asked about Firmino and Salah's injuries, who will not be playing for Liverpool. "It doesn't change anything for us. They're important casualties for them, but we don't have any influence on how we approach the game. They also have other players with other qualities they can bring. We have a lot of respect for them all," he made clear.
Firmino and Salah are out, but they will play at their home ground, which could make a difference. "For Liverpool players, Anfield is a plus. But as professional players we have to know how to play with that. In a second they can score against us. People are going to cheer and we have to watch out," he warned.
But Luis Suarez is wary. He remembers what happened to Barça just a year ago against Roma... "It is necessary to be conscious that, besides the good result that we had in the first leg, we come from the hard blow of previous years. We know what happened to us some time ago ... We are wary, we have to be careful," he said.
"We have to be attentive to all the details. They're going to come out and push from the first second, just like we did. We have to be careful not to foul, they have tall players. Don't get into making silly fouls and play our best game," Luis Suarez said.
The forward admitted that they are facing one of the great battles of the season. "It's a Champions League semifinal. I don't know if it's the most important match of the season, but we have to do even better than we have in other matches this season," he continued.
Luis Suarez took advantage of the press conference to declare his love for Barça. "As a professional, one dreams of retiring in a club like Barça, but that does not depend on me. My hope is to play here as much as possible and get all the titles that this shirt requires," he said.
"I have to be aware of my age, that I'm becoming older ... I know that in a few years the club will need a replacement. You talk about a lot of strikers every day, but you also have to be at the club's standard to live with the critics and accept some is always wanting to replace you. Maxi Gomez has a lot of conditions, but I'm not the one to tell the club who should take my place in the future," he concluded.
