Madrid's pre-season has been underway for a few days now, but although Ancelotti is missing most of his players, he has already been able to form a first impression of those who are under his orders, some of them veterans of his first period. He seems more than satisfied with them.
This is what he said, interviewed by 'RMTV'. "We have worked very hard, the players have done very well, there is a lot of quality in the young players and a great commitment from the veterans," said the Italian coach. "I really liked that, the commitment of Carvajal, Nacho, Marcelo, Lucas or Isco, players who have won everything and still have the desire, enthusiasm and hunger to have a great season as we would all like," he added.
David Alaba is the only signing as such that Madrid have made, and because of the Euros he is not yet under his direction. Even so, Ancelotti has given his opinion on the Austrian, who he knows well. "Alaba is a complete player, with a lot of quality, tactically intelligent in defence," he said. "I played him at centre-back in the last few games, sometimes he plays in midfield for Austria, he can also play on the left. He's a complete player who will do very well this season," he recalled of his time at Bayern.
He finished by talking about the style he wants to bring to the team. "We have to take into account the history of this club," he said, to begin with. "The team has to play well, showing the quality they have, it's the history of Madrid, energetic football, with intensity with and without the ball, which is what today's football requires, with intensity with or without the ball," he concluded.
