The former German international Lothar Matthaus does not think it is dramatic for Bayern Munich if Thiago Alcantara leaves as he said there are players of enough quality in the squad who can replace him.
"Bayern can cope with Thiago's departure. Although I'd like to see him play, I've not seen him play well in the big matches," Matthaus told 'Sky'.
"A player also has the right to say no to Bayern, I'd be more concerned if Bayern lost Manuel Neuer, Robert Lewandowski or Joshua Kimmich," he added.
Thiago's Bayern contract expires in 2021 and even though he was offered a new contract months ago, he has turned it down and decided to leave. He will go either to Spain or to England.
"Thiago has done a lot for Bayern, but I think he's replaceable. We have seen in the last few weeks that the midfield are doing well with Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka in midfield. In addition, it might be that Bayern are thinking about another player leaving and see Kai Havertz in Thiago's position," Matthaus said.
Bayer Leverkusen's Havertz has been linked with Bayern Munich, but his current club are asking for at least 100 million euros. If Thiago left, his departure could help pay for Havertz's signing.
