The former UEFA president and former world football legend was arrested for his alleged links to a corruption scheme in the World Cup 2022. Platini, who denied all accusations, spent 15 hours in the police stations and spoke to the press after his release.
The press was waiting for him uopn his release. Platini, accompanied by his lawyer, spoke briefly. "It was long, but given the number of questions, it had to be long. They asked me about Euro 2016, the 2018 World Cup, the World Cup in Catar, PSG and FIFA," he said.
Platini admitted to having been "serene" the whole time, denying any implication regarding the accusations. "I went in freely and all this noise is no fun. A lot of noise for nothing. I still don't know why I'm involved in this", wrote 'L'Équipe'.
The fact that he was a legend of the French National team influenced the fact that he presented himself "freely", although "I was immediately taken into custody". A circumstance that was "painful" for the former president of UEFA.
His lawyer, William Bourdon, also answered the press' questions: "He was only taken into custody for technical reasons. We were presented with very few new elements. He has nothing to reproach himself for and nothing is suspected, he is considered a mere witness in this case."
