Vicente del Bosque wanted to review Real Madrid's and Spain's current situation after recalling the moment he almost had the possiblity of coaching Messi as a Spain player.
"I haven't seen the 2010 final again. I have never seen the game in full, only certain bits. I haven't seen the Champions League or Euro finals either. I am not one for looking in the past. It's not about not enjoying achievements. I always tried to put everything into perspective. You have to be sensible in victory and defeat," commented Del Bosque about the historic conquering of the World Cup.
"If I had been at Real Madrid, I would have probably done the same as what the board did retaining a group of players which had won European Cups. It had old players who will in very good condition and young people coming through. Things sometimes don't occur as you think. 90% of Real Madrid fans probably said that nothing was going to happen after Cristiano Ronaldo's departure because it was already planned. I reiterate: I would have done the same as the club," explained the Spanish coach.
Regarding Redondo's future as a coach, he declared: "Coaching Redondo was a privilege. It was one of my favourites. He has been a coach inside the field of play. He was a leader and influenced the rest of the team. If he dedicated to train, he would be a great coach."·
"I don't have any nostalgia of the past. I look at it knowing that I did things reasonably well. When I took the step to retire I did it because I thought it was the right moment to," he concluded.
