Lo Celso, 22, has reviewed his season at Real Betis and his objectives, as well as the interest from some of the big clubs, in an interview for the famous French magazine.
"One tries to not focus on those things. One tries to focus on doing things as he has been doing before and try to keep improving. If you think about speculation, that's not good," pointed out the Argentine. "There are a lot of games left and we have big things left to play for, I am focussed on this and on trying to do my best. I don't know if Madrid and Barca came calling or not, I don't get involved in those things, I only try to play football, which is what makes me happy," he explained.
His objectives
The midfielder also spoke about what he wants for the future: "I know I am a young player. who has a long way to go, still. I am thinking about finishing as high as possible in the table with Betis and we will then see what happens as times goes by." Every player dreams about winning a Champions League, a World Cup with his country, those are the dreams one has from being small. But you have to work a lot for that, we are on the way to achieving those objectives, which are dreams in the short and long term," he added.
His growth
"Fortunately this year I had the possibility of scoring many goals. More this season than what I was capable of scoring in the whole of last season. But the important thing is to help the team, try and keep adding to my tally," he said about his goals for Betis. "We were discovering my ease for scoring goals. Last year, I scored a good amount, but it's positive to have bettered that. But I try to concentrate on doing things for the team and helping the team and if I do that by scoring goals, then great," he pointed out.
Some of those goals were in large stadiums: "I was lucky to score in large arenas like San Siro, Nou Camp, at home against AC Milan... They are very important games. This is what the formation and style of play gives you. It was me who had to score in important moments and that makes you feel very good."
Lo Celso also commented on his adaptation to Betis' style of play: "I knew I was coming to a club with a great idea of playing football, who were doing it very well and growing very, very quickly. I knew what I was going to expect, but I didn't expect to score as many goals. The style of play, the board, coaching and teammates as well as the fact there is no language barrier have helped me a lot," he added.
"I feel very comfortable a few metres further forward or inside. Depending on the opponent, we vary a lot our system and positions. I try to always offer 100% and try to help from the position I am put in," he said about his position. Regarding what he has played this season: "I had the chance to play many matches, I am happy playing and there is nothing nicer than playing three games a week. Playing constantly does you a lot of good."
But, what does Setien ask for? "The important thing is to know when to accelerate, when to take a break, which is what the manager asks for. The most important thing is that I feel comfortable with the formation and the way we play football. "I knew I was coming to one of the most competitive leagues in the world. It was a new experience and fortunately, I feel very comfortable. I am really liking the experience," he said about life in La Liga.
"In Spain, the lifestyle for an Argentine is not the same as in France. Here it's much more similar because of the language. It's a bit different," he explained.
His future and his time at PSG
Lo Celso assured that he is not thinking beyond the end of the season: "I am now enjoying my time. I owe it all to this club. I am trying to improve every day as a player and a person. The decision to come here was taken by both parties, we saw that it was the best for everyone. I tried to come to Betis to help a team and a club which is in continuous growth. I chose this club for what it is, the hsitory it has, the city, for how people live football here, he said apart his departure from PSG.
My time in Paris was very positive. It was my first experience in Europe, the first few months were more difficult, especially in such a big club. I found the early days difficult, but with time I became more comfortable and I ended up playing a lot," he admitted.
The Argentine also spoke about how it is being Neymar and Mbappe's teammate: "They are players which make a lot of difference on the field of play, they are very good players, but in the dressing room, they are great people. Very humble and hard working. I tried to learn a lot watching them play and by having a good relation with them."
"I am enjoying at Betis and I don't know what will happen in the future. I am not thinking about it, because everything goes very quickly," he said about returning to PSG one day.
