Another meeting between Zidane and Simeone, Ronaldo and Griezmann, between Navas and Oblak. It's the 270th Madrid derby.
The Madridistas and atleticos will go face to face for the second time in the league this season, after a meeting on November 18th that seems very distant now. In that game the points were shared in a 0-0 draw.
It was the first time that Real Madrid had played at the Wanda Metropolitano, and both teams sent out full strength starting lineups. However, neither Griezmann, Ronaldo nor Benzema were able to make any impact on the scoreline.
Real Madrid were third in the league at the time, six points behind Valencia on 30, with Barcelona leading the way on 34. Atletico were fourth but level on points with their neighbours.
Zidane opted for Kiko Casilla in goal, with Marcelo, Varane, Ramos and Carvajal making up the defence. Kroos, Casemiro, Modric and Isco lined up behind Ronaldo and Benzema.
Simeone went for Oblak, Juanfran, Godin, Savic and Lucas behind Correa, Saul, Thomas, Gabi, Koke. Griezmann led the line as a lone striker.
He is the same Griezmann who will be central to Atleti's hopes of taking the three points today, and finally open the scoring in derbies this season. The frenchman had one goal going into the previous matchup for the season - he now has 25.
It is a similar story for Cristiano Ronaldo, who has found his form since the turn of the new year. With two goals to his name in the league last time out, he now has 39 in all competitions from 36 games played. The Bernabeu will be giving him a hero's welcome after his exploits in Turin in the Champions League.
