Lopetegui on the verge of the sack
Julen Lopetegui's time in the Bernabeu hot seat looks to be numbered after goals from Jose Luis Morales and Roger condemned Real to another home defeat.
Reports in Spain said this game would be make or break for the former Spain manager, and after another defeat his sacking is looking more and more likely.
With Real linked with managers including Antonio Conte and Arsene Wenger, 'Marca', the newspaper closest to the club, say Lopetegui's dismissal is ''inevitable.''
The reports say that the coach's lack of experience at this level and his inability to get the best out of his players will prompt club President Fiorentino Perez to look elsewhere.
La Liga and Champions League prospects
One mild crumb of comfort for 'Madridistas' has been Barcelona's failure to fully capitalise on their rivals' troubles, with the Catalan club only 4 points ahead of their fellow powerhouses who are down in fifth.
However the prospect of an impending Classico this weekend could leave a seven point gap between the teams if Barca prevail, although they will have to do so without the injured Lionel Messi.
In Europe things are also in the balance, after a win against Roma and a loss to CSKA Moscow, Real are in second place with three points but are only ahead of the Italians by means of goals scored.
They face Victoria Plzen at home on Tuesday, which could not be more of a 'must-win' game.
Troubles in front of goal
Under Previous coach Zinedine Zidane, who could call upon the services of Cristiano Ronaldo, Real never failed to score in consecutive games and scored in 73 consecutive games from April 2016 to September 2017.
Under his replacement Madrid have undergone their worst non scoring run since 1985 and it took Marcelo's powerful strike in the 72nd minute to end a streak of 482 minutes without notching.
Verdict
Although media hype is always going to be hyperbolic, things do not look at all rosy at the Bernabeu. It will take a miracle for Lopetegui to survive this storm and things could easily get worse before they get better.
