Two summers ago, PSG made history as they paid Neymar's 222 million Euro release clause to bring the Brazilian over to Paris from Barcelona, in what was - and still is - the most expensive transfer in history. However, Neymar's move to PSG has not panned out the way either party would have wanted it to.
The 27 year-old has had his fair share of bad luck at the French champions, suffering broken metatarsals in both of his seasons which have caused him to miss the most important final stretches of each campaign. PSG were still counting on him to lead them next season, but his recent off the field controversies have put him firmly in the spotlight. His situation was compounded by a clear warning from club president Al-Khelaifi earlier today: "The stars have to do more and if they don't agree, the door is open".
So open, 'L'Équipe' are reporting, that PSG are reportedly willing to sell the forward this summer for the right price. They are also reporting that Neymar is desperate for a move to Barcelona, but how would his former side finance such a transfer?
The French press suggest that, in order to bring Neymar back to Catalonia, Barcelona will offer one or more players in exchange, which would make the transfer cheaper and free up some funds to pay Neymar's salary.
Three names have been suggested as players that PSG would like to bring in from Barcelona: Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembélé and Ivan Rakitic. The Parisians have shown an interest in all three, so it could be useful for Barcelona to include at least one of them in any potential deal.
'Sport' reported on 3rd June that Coutinho is one of PSG's top targets this summer. Add to this the doubts about Dembélé due to his injuries and behaviour and uncertainty over Rakitic's role after Frenkie de Jong's arrival, and Barça seem to be in a good position to make a tempting offer to PSG this summer.
