Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has apologised to the Southampton supporters in the wake of their sorry showing away to champions Manchester City, which saw them hit for six goals.
It can be argued that, given City's quality and ruthlessness, Southampton were cast aside with ease, like so many others visiting teams to the Etihad.
However the Danish international has taken the opportunity to thank the supporters for their backing in spite of their side's rotten display.
The midfielder told the club website: "We feel terrible. I can only say, again, thank you and sorry to the supporters and sorry to Southampton Football Club."
He continued: "'It is difficult to put the game in words. You get emotional, you get frustrated, you get disappointed - you need to turn it around and use it as fire and use it as fuel to go forward and give everything next Saturday for a win. We take responsibility for what we do, take it on the chin and grow with it."

Southampton were shellshocked by a quick fire treble from City early in the game, and found themselves 3 goals down before the clock hit the 20 minute mark.
The team did manage to rally, pulling back a goal thanks to a Danny Ings penalty.
Unfortunately this would only prove to be a consolation, as City added a fourth before the interval, and then a further two goals in the second half.
The south coast side will have to recover quickly from this crushing loss, as their next fixture is a tough home match against a stubborn Watford side next weekend.
