The winger has been one of the most fouled players in the Premier League so far this season, and hit out at referees claiming that they refused to protect him properly from rough challenges.
Crystal Palace next face Newcastle on Saturday in a game that could see Zaha fouled even more, and while his manager understands his frustration he thinks the player has to respond through actions rather than words.
"Wilf is a person who has a strong sense of justice, like all players with exceptional ability they need to be looked after that extra bit" Roy Hodgson said.
"We pay our money really to see the artists, we don't necessarily pay our money to see the artisans - and he is definitely an artist.
"But as far as I am concerned we put a lid on this one.
"Of course, he also knows very well what everyone has been saying - the best way to answer criticism, the best way to deal with people who are trying to stop you unfairly is to punish them by using your skill, beating them and scoring goals."
Hodgson will be hoping Zaha can do just that in the game at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon.
