It took a rather fortuitous goal from Diego Costa to seal a 1-0 victory for 'La Roja' on Wednesday evening, in what was another difficult game for one of the teams many considered a "favourite" to lift the trophy on July.
Speaking in his post-match press conference to 'Telecinco', Hierro addressed the tough condititions for all teams in Russia this year.
"Nobody is winning easily at the World Cup, we've had it as hard as we thought. It's difficult to get into a rhythm with so much interruption. At half-time we corrected some things and improved after the goal".
Group B has proved more competitive than many believed going into the competition, with any two of Spain, Portugal or Iran still able to progress to the Round of 16.
Hierro added: "Equality is at its maximum in this World Cup. Iran are a great team, with clear ideas. Queiroz has been working with them for seven years and they won't make things easy for anyone."
