After arriving in the French capital on a free transfer this summer, Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera is hoping to rejuvenate a PSG side that seems to have stagnated in recent years.
The first question asked to the ex-Manchester United player by 'Marca' unsurprisingly regarded the futures of Mbappé and Neymar. "Yes, I think so", he replied when asked if the two would still be at Parc des Princes when the season starts.
He spoke further on the French superstar, suggesting that he is on track to become an all-time great but must keep up his levels of consistency.
"Now, as far as numbers go he is better than them, but one of the things I admire about Messi and Cristiano is consistency. Time will tell if he manages to maintain that consistency. In that case, we may have the new superstar for the next ten or 15 years," he continued.
Herrera took pressure off of his side as he discussed their chances in the Champions League: "Every season there are several teams that dream of winning the Champions League. The fact that one wins does not mean that the rest fail. It should be remembered that PSG this past season have not won either the Cup or the League Cup, so we must try to continue to dominate in France first of all," he said.
Finally, he acknowledged that Louis Van Gaal, who is often criticised as much as he is praised, was one of the coaches who improved him the most in his career: "He improved me. I played a lot with him, more than 60 games in two seasons, I was also very useful for him and I have a great memory of him," he insisted. He also mentioned Marcelo Bielsa and Ernesto Valverde as two other managers who helped him kick on as a player.
