After scoring a brace in France's 5-0 thrashing of South Africa in an international friendly, Kylian Mbappe seemed convinced that one day he will be France's top goalscorer: "I always want to be number one".
"I know that there's still a lot of time ahead, everyone knows what Thierry Henry did (51 goals for 'Les Bleus'), no one has matched it, but I know I can break it and do it sooner than you think", said the PSG attacker to 'TV1'
At 23 years old, Mbappe has scored 26 goals for the national team. At his age, Henry had only scored eight. The PSG man has scored nine goals in his previous five matches for France and so, the World Cup winner of 2018 is very much on track to break Henry's record sooner or later.
Mbappe missed out on France's previous game against the Ivory Coast due to respiratory issues. However, he returned for the next match to score a brace against South Africa and he was the best player on the pitch that evening. He is having the best season of his career. The Frenchman has been incredible for his club and has outshone the likes of Neymar and Messi.
Henry's record is also being hunted down by Olivier Giroud, who also scored against South Africa and another against the Ivory Coast. His tally is currently at 48. The AC Milan man has not been in Didier Deschamp's plans since the Euros however, he was brought in at the last minute due to a Karim Benzema injury.
